Getting started, and is it safe?
GType is signed by xTen Ventures, but as a brand-new app from a new publisher, Windows may still show a caution screen the first time you run it. Here is exactly how to get past it — and, in plain language, what the app does and does not do.

Windows may say "Windows protected your PC"
You may see a blue screen mentioning an unknown publisher. This appears for any brand-new app from a new publisher — it is not a virus warning.
Click "More info", then "Run anyway"
The More info link reveals a Run anyway button. Click it, and the installer continues as normal.
Allow the microphone when asked
GType needs your microphone to hear you. Allow it when Windows prompts, or enable it later under Settings › Privacy › Microphone.
Yes — here is the plain truth
Offline by default. Honest about the beta.
Dictation runs entirely offline. During the beta, GType shares only anonymised pronunciation patterns (phonemes) once a week to improve recognition. You agree at install, and you can turn it off anytime in Settings.
A phoneme is a single unit of speech sound — like the /v/ in "vine" or the /th/ in "think". It's written as a symbol, not a recording. A phoneme says which sound was made — it carries no voice, no words, and nothing that identifies you.
